I have never felt more thankful to live in such a beautiful part of South Australia and for the government encouraging everyone to exercise close to home!
With a bag of healthy snacks and water packed we headed to Deep Creek Conservation Park. The park is located within 100kms of Adelaide on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula.The park is full of native wildlife and you can even spot a whale cruising the coast line between May and October.
We started our day at Trigg Campground to walk the 6.8km return hike to Deep Creek Cove.
The hike is considered moderate as there is some steep terrain.I was accompanied by a 9 and 12 year old and although quite a decent incline on the way home, we did well.
The path narrows in some sections, and as you can see some of the paths are quite rocky, I would suggest wearing boots if you have them, but it can be done in sneakers.
As the path twists and turns you will witness some of the most beautiful views of the Southern Ocean as you hike your way down to the secluded cove.
Amazing views looking out to Tunkalilla Beach and across to Kangaroo Island.
If you're quiet (it's not that quiet with 2 kids) you may hear and see some of the beautiful bird life, they tell me there is over 100 bird species currently living in the park.It is also home to a lot of native wildlife including the short beaked echidnas, I think we were too noisy for those too!
And of course, you will never complete a hike at Deep Creek without seeing at least a few of its friendly locals.
The suggested time for this hike is 2.5 – 4 hours.We completed it in 2.5 which included a short morning tea break (the girls favourite part!) We could have kept walking a little further and scramble down the rocks to the beach but we decided we would do that when we had another adult present, just in case!
The park has 15 walking trails ranging from easy walks to hard hikes, it also includes sections of the famous Heysen Trail.There arecampgrounds and picnic spots throughout the park too. The park is accessible by a 2wd vehicle and has a 4x4 track for the adventurous type!
