HMAS Hobart Lookout

The 'HMAS Hobart Memorial' Lookout is located a few kilometres along Main South Road (via Willis Drive) from the township of Normanville. Registered on the national Australian War Memorial register "Places of Pride' and maintained by the District Council of Yankalilla as a roadside-reserve, 10's of thousands of visitors each year take in the magnificent coastal vista that some who have visited Gallipoli say this part of the Fleurieu panoramic Coastline much resembles.

The 'HMAS Hobart Memorial' is steeped in Australian Navy history and an up-to-date interpretive-sign (2025) is centrally located, providing interesting detail of HMAS Hobart I (WW1) and HMAS Hobart II (Vietnam War) and the currently in-service HMAS Hobart III built here in South Australia.

Of special significance is the Ship's Anchor of HMAS Hobart DDG 39 (HMAS Hobart II) which lays at the Memorial site pointing towards the resting-place of the Destroyer, ceremoniously scuttled at sea, distance 6.0n.m (11.5km) on 5th November 2002 and now forming an internationally recognized premier Eco-dive site and fish abundant reef.

Visitors having further interest in the history of HMAS Hobart II may observe the 'Radar Tower' in original state, located on display at the Museum and Visitor Information Centre, Normanville.
