Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple

temple photoThe Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple of Australia was incorporated in 1996 as a religious organisation and it is not affiliated or linked to any other Buddhist organisation in Australia.

The majority who visit and pray at the temples are ethnic Chinese from various South East Asian countries such as mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore Vietnam and many more. Size of the weekly congregation varies depending on the occasion, for example on days of significance like Chinese New Year, the birthday of Buddha Sakyamuni , the annual Yu Lan ceremonies etc

The Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple of Australia Inc. is a not for profit Buddhist organisation. Their vision is to propagate, study and practice the Dharma (Buddha’s teachings). Their mission is to promote and cultivate the Chinese culture and traditions in our multicultural society especially amongst our younger generation and to provide spiritual guidance to the Australian community and those in need.

The Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple Of Australia Inc. is located about 50km from the city of Adelaide. The property is about 137 acres and extends for about 3km along the coast. The temple sits on idyllic, rolling hills which sweep down to the glittering sea of turquoise blue with the brilliant blue sky forming a magnificent backdrop. Visitors to the temple return to revisit every year, making it a tourist attraction and a Buddhist place of worship.

Shrine of Our Lady of Yankalilla

christ church yankalillaOn August 24, 1994, a parishioner saw what appeared to be an image of the Virgin Mary high on the back wall of the church. Eventually, after two years, the "apparition" was acknowledged, and a wrought iron fame was placed around it. An article in The Advertiser in 1996 attracted attention from around the world, bringing many pilgrims to the small town of Yankalilla.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Yankalilla was dedicated by Bishop Walden on December 15, 1996. To this day, many people come to light candles and pray in the church, writing their requests for healing and help, or expressions of thanksgiving, on small leaflets pinned to a board, and in the book kept at the front.

Sometime later, the image on the wall appeared to show Mary tending the prostrate Jesus after the crucifixion, known as a "pieta", and this is the form which is represented in the icon painting on the right front wall of the church.

The Shrine is open daily from 10am to 5pm.
