Cape Jervis

Cape Jervis is the southern gateway to the Fleurieu Peninsula and the departure point for the ferry to Kangaroo Island, but it is worth making time for the mainland side of the journey too. Perched at the tip of the peninsula, the small coastal town looks across rugged coastline and the Southern Ocean, with winter bringing green hills and clear views across the water.

For a closer look at the coast, head to Morgan Beach, an 800-metre sandy cove beneath 50-metre-high cliffs. The beach is popular for swimming and fishing, with a rocky reef at its southern end and a gravel road leading from Cape Jervis to the clifftop lookout and beach.

Cape Jervis is also a popular base for fishing, with a boat ramp and jetty, while local operators offer fishing charters and boat cruises along the coast. On land, the nearby landscapes are made for walking. Explore the trails of Deep Creek National Park or follow the Wild South Coast Way section of the Heysen Trail, which begins at Cape Jervis.

Around 107 kilometres south of Adelaide, Cape Jervis is approximately a two-hour drive from the city and around 45–60 minutes from Victor Harbor. It makes a natural stop on a Southern Fleurieu road trip, a base for exploring Deep Creek National Park and the southern coastline, or a place to spend some time before or after catching the ferry to Kangaroo Island.

For travellers heading to Kangaroo Island, Cape Jervis may be the departure point, but Morgan Beach, coastal walks and fishing give you plenty of reason to linger on the mainland.
